Massage Modality Descriptions

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage, also known as Circulatory massage, is intended to support your circulatory system and bring you to a place of relaxation. The direction of the works moves along with your circulatory system to boost blood flow, the flow of nutrients, and support your integumentary system (skin!).

This option is great for someone who wants a relaxing massage with soothing touch and medium pressure.

This modality activates your parasympathetic nervous system: rest and digest. You may find yourself entering a state of deep relaxation, a meditative state, or even falling asleep.

The intention of this massage is to calm the nervous system and rejuvenate the functions of your body.

Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage is a focused area massage. The techniques of deep tissue are used to release tense muscles or break up fascia (knots) that are causing pain or discomfort in your body. Deep tissue does not always mean deep pressure, as I will go as far as your muscles are ready for. This may look like spending time on a muscle group with building pressure until that muscle is ready to let go.

This option is great for someone who has a chronic ache in one muscle group, knots, or limited range of motion due to “stuck” muscles.

As we go through our lives with repetitive postures; sitting at a desk, a lot of driving, the way we sleep, the fascia that covers our muscles can get stuck. Muscles that overlay one another can get stuck together, resulting in pain or limited range of motion.

The intention of this massage is to melt that fascia, break up fascia build up (knots), and promote bringing your body back to homeostasis.

Craniosacral

Craniosacral is believed to relieve or remove energetic blocks from your spinal column to allow cerebral spinal fluid to flow more effectively.

In my experience, craniosacral therapy is effective in bringing the recipient to a state of complete relaxation. As a recipient of this modality, this practice has brought me to the most meditative state I have experienced.

Therapeutic Stretching

Therapeutic stretching is a form of assisted stretching. This is a fully clothed modality offered on a massage table. Some stretches may be passive where I am bringing your muscle groups to their flexibility points. Some stretches may be active where I ask you to gently push against me to open up your range of motion.

Our bodies can get stuck in patterns as we have our daily routines of repetitive movement. This can cause a limited range of movement of what our bodies are capable of.

The intention of this modality is to increase flexibility, reduce muscle or joint pain, and increase body awareness and quality of movement.
